The Neighborhood

For the team at Hoodsport Ace Hardware in Washington, supporting the community means being there for the big events that affect everyone. It also means being there for smaller events that might only impact a few of their neighbors. Either way, caring for others ispart of the job, every day.

Local resident Jamie is a pet lover through and through, with a pair of plucky French bulldogs. She would often bring her dogs into Ace Hardware, and the team at the store quickly formed a bond with Jamie and her pets. When her dog Ella passed away from cancer, Jamie was upset and needed a friend. The team at Ace was there with some gifts to cheer her up, including a casserole and a flower arrangement.

"They brought food and flowers and hugs and a card," said Jamie. "After that knock on the door from Ace, my entire mood shifted. I knew that I didn't have that sidekick anymore, but I had support."

We always try and support and build up one another, and we take that same energy and we bring it back to the community that we live in. Stephanie, Ace Associate

"The people that live here… it's a very tight-knit community," said Gary, General Manager of Hoodsport Ace.

Hoodsport Ace also led the volunteer effort to aid the community during the Bear Gulch forest fire, which grew to 10,000 acres in difficult-to-reach terrain. The team at Ace hosts a firefighter breakfast, feeding over 200 individuals a week, with over 2,000 served so far.

"We do take that Ace Extra Mile Promise seriously," said Stephanie, Ace Associate. "We always try and support and build up one another, and we take that same energy and we bring it back to the community that we live in."
